Misfortune in Lil Baby concert
Lil Baby's concert in Memphis on the night of September 7 took a tragic turn when a shooting incident occurred inside the arena, resulting in critical injuries to one of the attendees. The Memphis Police Department responded to reports of the shooting at 191 Beale Street, which is the location of the FedEx Forum, at 10:23 p.m.
Lil Baby was headlining the concert as part of his It’s Only Us Tour, featuring opening acts including GloRilla, Rylo Rodriguez, Gloss Up, and Hunxho.
A statement from the Memphis Police Department indicated that one adult male was critically injured in the shooting and was taken to Regional One Health. The identity of the shooter remains unknown. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries, and the arena was cleared of attendees. Authorities encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call 901-528-CASH.
Videos shared on social media captured the chaotic scene during Lil Baby's performance, with a gunshot audible in one of the clips. Later footage showed the victim being wheeled out on a stretcher.
As of now, Lil Baby has not publicly commented on the shooting incident. GloRilla, one of the opening acts, expressed her shock and frustration on Instagram Live as she left the arena, noting the unexpected violence in Memphis.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time violence has disrupted a Lil Baby concert. In March 2020, a shooting during his show in Birmingham, Alabama, resulted in one person being hospitalized. Additionally, violence marred a GloRilla performance in Rochester, New York, in March of the same year when a stampede occurred inside the venue, leading to three fatalities. The stampede was triggered by false reports of a shooting. GloRilla expressed her deep sadness and condolences for the victims and their families after the tragic incident.
One of the victim's sisters subsequently filed a lawsuit related to the Rochester tragedy, although GloRilla was not named as a defendant in the case. Instead, the lawsuit sought access to video footage, emergency exit plans, and other critical information from the venue.
