Meek Mill took it upon himself to impart some wisdom to a sneaker reseller after a recent transaction that left the Dreamchasers leader dissatisfied.
Meek participated in a sneaker exposition over the weekend but wasn't exactly thrilled when faced with a $500 price tag for a pair of Jordan Retro 4 x SB Pine Greens.
The Philly-based rapper reluctantly agreed to the price after attempting to negotiate with the seller. However, he later took the opportunity to share some insights on how the seller could improve his approach.
Meek pointed out that if the seller had been more flexible with the pricing, he could have potentially sold more pairs or capitalized on the chance to gain exposure through Meek's platform, thus boosting his business.
"Why would I pay $500 here if I could get them for the regular price in a store? And on top of that, give you free advertising? That's not a smart move. Allow me to teach you about hustling," Meek began. "You want $500? I could easily purchase these from a store right now for $300. You're asking for $500? That's not a wise transaction."
Meek went on to explain his perspective: "Your move should have been offering Meek Mill a discount, and in return, you'd get the exposure. Boom, maybe I'd even come back for more purchases."
While Meek asserted that he could get the sought-after Retro 4's for $300, this claim wasn't accurate given that the shoes are sold out in stores after their initial $225 release in March. The resale market, including consignment shops and platforms like Flight Club or StockX, now commands much higher prices.
Sizes nine through twelve in men's footwear are currently priced between $400 and $600 for those seeking the rare Jordan 4 x SB collaboration.
The exchange between Meek and the sneaker reseller quickly gained attention on social media, with opinions from different sides of the spectrum. Some argued that as a celebrity, Meek shouldn't expect discounts, while others noted that collaboration is key to growth.
Meek later addressed the comments surrounding his interaction with the sneaker reseller on his Instagram Stories. He clarified that the reseller had wanted him at his table and revealed that he purchased other sneakers for the regular price, showcasing his support for the event.
In a subsequent post, Meek emphasized that he had come to the event to draw attention and that the internet's portrayal wasn't necessarily the full story.
