Young Thug has vehemently refuted a detective's claim that he provided information in a murder trial several years ago, and his legal team is working to have the detective's testimony dismissed in his YSL RICO case.
According to recently obtained court documents, motions in limine were filed arguing that Detective Quinn, a prosecution witness, would falsely testify that Young Thug (born Jeffery Williams) had cooperated with him in an unrelated murder case. Attorney Brian Steel is requesting that Judge Ural Glanville exclude Detective Quinn's testimony on the grounds that it is inaccurate, puts Young Thug's character into question, and is irrelevant to the current trial.
Furthermore, Steel is requesting the exclusion of any 911 calls made by Young Thug related to the unnamed murder, emphasizing the need to preserve Young Thug's right to a fair trial.
Brian Steel also reportedly sought the dismissal of RICO charges against his client and all co-defendants from YSL, citing the statute of limitations. However, it remains uncertain whether the judge will grant this request.
The filing argues that the allegations exceed the statute of limitations for a state RICO charge and should be removed from the indictment. It states that to prove RICO conspiracy, the prosecution must establish, beyond a reasonable doubt, that at least one overt act was committed in furtherance of the conspiracy within the statute of limitations. The motion points out that overt acts 1 through about 61 occurred more than five years before the indictment was filed, while overt acts 62 through 191 allegedly occurred within the five-year timeframe. Therefore, the inclusion of overt acts outside the statute of limitations is considered inadmissible and prejudicial.
The motion concludes by requesting the striking of overt acts dated before approximately May 2017 as they constitute evidence of other crimes barred by the applicable statute of limitations, causing prejudice to Young Thug and lacking probative value.
Please note that the outcome of these motions and the ongoing trial are not included in the available information.
