Travis Scott has evaded prosecution for the criminal charges stemming from the Astroworld tragedy of 2021, which resulted in the death of 10 individuals and the injury of numerous others.
According to TMZ, a Texas grand jury has decided not to bring criminal charges against the rapper, a process known as "no-billing," as reported on Thursday (June 29). Travis Scott's lawyer, Kent Schaffer, stated that the "SICKO MODE" rapper did not testify in his defense during the grand jury hearing.
Although Travis Scott has consistently maintained that he was unaware of the unfolding stampede during the concert, several civil lawsuits have been filed against him, which are still pending.
It's important to note that the resolution of the criminal case does not impact the ongoing civil litigation. The Harris County District Attorney, who initiated the criminal charges, declined to comment on the outcome.
On November 5, 2021, Travis Scott held the opening night of his Astroworld concert, which tragically resulted in the loss of eight lives and the injury of numerous concertgoers. The chaos ensued when the approximately 50,000 attendees began rushing toward the NFG Stadium stage.
Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña explained that the crowd started compressing towards the front of the stage, leading to panic. The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. local time, and once Travis Scott and the organizers, Live Nation, became aware of the situation, they promptly halted the show.
Two additional individuals later succumbed to their injuries following the concert.
Approximately 300 people received treatment at a makeshift facility on the festival grounds. The names and ages of the casualties were not disclosed, but Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo confirmed that one of the victims was a 10-year-old.
Chief Peña mentioned that CPR was performed on 11 of the victims, and at one point, the Houston Fire Department had 55 units in service to address the festival's emergencies.
Following the tragedy, the second day of the Astroworld festival was canceled
