TMZ reports that Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records, is collaborating with his brother, Brian Brown, on a TV series that will document Knight's journey to superstardom and eventual tragedy. The series is inspired by 50 Cent's hit STARZ show, BMF, and will devote airtime to Knight's pre-music industry beginnings as a kid growing up in Compton with aspirations of becoming a football coach. The TV series is expected to begin shooting this summer, and Knight and his brother are currently searching for actors to portray 2Pac and other key figures from Death Row Records' heyday.
Despite Knight's well-documented time as one of hip-hop's most powerful and feared executives, the show promises to shed light on his early life. Knight, who is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for the hit-and-run death of Terry Carter in 2015, has admitted to one count of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the incident.
As a co-founder of Death Row Records, Knight was responsible for producing platinum records for artists such as 2Pac, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg, who now owns the legendary gangsta rap label, brought Death Row's discography back to streaming services after removing it last year due to artist payout issues.
