Birdman Claims He's the Best Hip Hop CEO
Cash Money Records founder Birdman has once again called out Billboard for not recognizing the impact of Hip Hop CEOs. In an Instagram post on Thursday, Birdman criticized the music publication for not including the moguls behind an artist's success in their recent 50 Greatest Rappers list. Alongside a picture of the Billboard logo, Birdman claimed that he is the best CEO Hip Hop has ever had in its 50-year history.
While acknowledging the respect given to the 10 best rappers on the list, Birdman called out Billboard for not giving due credit to the CEOs who paved the way for the success of these artists. He asserted that he, along with other CEOs, fought battles behind closed doors to ensure that these rappers could become superstars. Birdman emphasized the need for recognition for the hard work of Hip Hop CEOs, including himself and others who have held it down for 50 years.
Billboard and VIBE's recent list of the 50 Greatest Rappers drew mixed reactions from fans and artists alike, with many expressing their opinions on social media. While the list recognized legendary artists such as Kanye West, Andre 3000, Lauryn Hill, and Jay-Z, it was also criticized for excluding some notable names.
Birdman's recent comments follow his earlier criticism of Billboard for failing to recognize the CEOs who have changed the culture of Hip Hop. He expressed confusion over why the focus of the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop was mainly on the artists who changed the game, while the CEOs who made it all possible were overlooked.
