FAT JOE RECALLS BIG PUN WALKING OUT OF 1999 GRAMMYS AFTER LOSING: 'FUCK THESE PEOPLE'
During an interview with XXL, Fat Joe reminisced about the night in 1999 when he and Big Pun walked out of the Grammys after losing the Best Rap Album award to JAY-Z's "Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life." Pun was nominated for his debut album "Capital Punishment" and was not pleased with the loss. Despite Fat Joe wanting to stay and network with other artists, he decided to leave with Pun out of loyalty to his friend. The two were photographed in their iconic oversized suits and finger waves. The same year, JAY-Z boycotted the Grammys in solidarity with DMX, who was snubbed despite releasing two successful rap albums the year prior. Despite the Grammy loss, Fat Joe expressed how Big Pun was a trailblazer for Latino artists and praised his talent as a lyricist. Sadly, Big Pun passed away the following year due to health complications.
