R. Kelly sentenced to 20 years in jail for child sex crimes
R. Kelly, the former R&B star and convicted sex offender, has been sentenced by a judge to 20 years in prison for a new set of sex crimes, including several child pornography charges. However, he will only serve one additional year to his previous 30-year sentence, with 19 of those years to be served concurrently. Kelly was found guilty of three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement in September, but acquitted of a fourth pornography count and a conspiracy to obstruct justice charge. He is currently serving 30 years for racketeering and sex trafficking convictions in New York. Prosecutors recommended Kelly serve 25 additional years consecutively to his New York federal case sentence, but with Thursday's sentence, Kelly will serve no more than 31 years. Two of Kelly's accusers asked the judge to punish him harshly, stating they had lost their dreams and lives to Kelly.
