Drake Ordered to Sit for Deposition
Drake, the popular rapper, has been ordered to appear in court for a deposition regarding the murder of XXXtentacion. The defense team for Dedrick Williams, one of the suspects in the murder trial, had listed a number of artists as potential witnesses in December, and Drake was one of them. The defense attorney, Mauricio Padilla, believes that Drake's feud with the late rapper could be connected to the murder and is trying to subpoena him to solidify the claim. Drake failed to appear for his scheduled deposition on January 27 and has been ordered to appear via Zoom on February 24. If he fails to appear again, he may face contempt charges.
The rumors of Drake's involvement in the murder stem from a feud between the two rappers over allegations of Drake using XXXtentacion's flows in his song "KMT". Following XXXtentacion's death, a story was posted on his Instagram page accusing Drake of being involved in the murder. However, XXXtentacion later claimed that his account was hacked.
In a December court filing, Padilla also listed other popular rappers such as Quavo, Offset, Takeoff, Tekashi 6ix9ine, and Joe Budden as potential witnesses. However, the prosecutors called the move a stunt and demanded answers from Padilla on the relevance of these superstars to the case. Padilla stated that it was not easy to subpoena these high-profile individuals but he was trying to do so.
